There exists a vulnerability in exception sanitization of vm2 for versions up to 3.9.16, allowing attackers to raise an unsanitized host exception inside `handleException()` which can be used to escape the sandbox and run arbitrary code in host context. This vulnerability was patched in the release of version `3.9.17` of `vm2`. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability. Users are advised to upgrade.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":10.0},"cwes":["CWE-74"],"references":["https://gist.github.com/leesh3288/381b230b04936dd4d74aaf90cc8bb244","https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/commit/4b22e87b102d97d45d112a0931dba1aef7eea049","https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/commit/f3db4dee4d76b19869df05ba7880d638a880edd5","https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/security/advisories/GHSA-ch3r-j5x3-6q2m","https://gist.github.com/leesh3288/381b230b04936dd4d74aaf90cc8bb244"],"products":["vm2_project:vm2"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:38:05.473481323+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-30547","score":0.72973,"percentile":0.99453,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-ch3r-j5x3-6q2m","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-ch3r-j5x3-6q2m","summary":"vm2 Sandbox Escape vulnerability","modified":"2023-11-08T04:12:25.205008Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"vm2","purl":"pkg:npm/vm2","ranges":["<3.9.17"],"fixed":["3.9.17"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
