{"cve":"CVE-2023-29403","nvd":{"published":"2023-06-08T21:15:16.927","modified":"2026-06-17T05:49:58.430","status":"Modified","description":"On Unix platforms, the Go runtime does not behave differently when a binary is run with the setuid/setgid bits. This can be dangerous in certain cases, such as when dumping memory state, or assuming the status of standard i/o file descriptors. If a setuid/setgid binary is executed with standard I/O file descriptors closed, opening any files can result in unexpected content being read or written with elevated privileges. Similarly, if a setuid/setgid program is terminated, either via panic or signal, it may leak the contents of its registers.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-668"],"references":["https://go.dev/cl/501223","https://go.dev/issue/60272","https://groups.google.com/g/golang-announce/c/q5135a9d924/m/j0ZoAJOHAwAJ","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/NZ2O6YCO2IZMZJELQGZYR2WAUNEDLYV6/","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/XBS3IIK6ADV24C5ULQU55QLT2UE762ZX/"],"products":["fedoraproject:fedora","golang:go"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:38:24.161619714+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-29403","score":0.00429,"percentile":0.37141,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GO-2023-1840","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2023-1840","summary":"Unsafe behavior in setuid/setgid binaries in runtime","modified":"2026-02-04T03:48:08.792378Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"stdlib","purl":"pkg:golang/stdlib","ranges":["<1.19.10",">=1.20.0-0 <1.20.5"],"fixed":["1.19.10","1.20.5"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
