Instances relying on an allow-listed reset URL are vulnerable to an HTML injection attack through the use of query parameters in the reset URL. An attacker could exploit this to email users urls to the servers domain but which may contain malicious code. The problem has been resolved and released under version 9.23.0. People relying on a custom password reset URL should upgrade to 9.23.0 or later, or remove the custom reset url from the configured allow list. Users are advised to upgrade. Users unable to upgrade may disable the custom reset URL allow list as a workaround.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":5.4},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/directus/directus/issues/17119","https://github.com/directus/directus/pull/17120","https://github.com/directus/directus/security/advisories/GHSA-4hmq-ggrm-qfc6","https://github.com/directus/directus/issues/17119","https://github.com/directus/directus/pull/17120"],"products":["rangerstudio:directus"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:37:41.955480748+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-27474","score":0.00531,"percentile":0.44882,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-4hmq-ggrm-qfc6","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-4hmq-ggrm-qfc6","summary":"directus vulnerable to HTML Injection in Password Reset email to custom Reset URL","modified":"2026-09-10T03:49:52.346102909Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"directus","purl":"pkg:npm/directus","ranges":["<9.23.0"],"fixed":["9.23.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
