{"cve":"CVE-2023-25653","nvd":{"published":"2023-02-16T19:15:14.650","modified":"2026-06-17T05:41:40.070","status":"Modified","description":"node-jose is a JavaScript implementation of the JSON Object Signing and Encryption (JOSE) for web browsers and node.js-based servers. Prior to version 2.2.0, when using the non-default \"fallback\" crypto back-end, ECC operations in `node-jose` can trigger a Denial-of-Service (DoS) condition, due to a possible infinite loop in an internal calculation. For some ECC operations, this condition is triggered randomly; for others, it can be triggered by malicious input. The issue has been patched in version 2.2.0. Since this issue is only present in the \"fallback\" crypto implementation, it can be avoided by ensuring that either WebCrypto or the Node `crypto` module is available in the JS environment where `node-jose` is being run.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-835"],"references":["https://github.com/cisco/node-jose/commit/901d91508a70e3b9bdfc45688ea07bb4e1b8210d","https://github.com/cisco/node-jose/security/advisories/GHSA-5h4j-qrvg-9xhw","https://github.com/cisco/node-jose/commit/901d91508a70e3b9bdfc45688ea07bb4e1b8210d","https://github.com/cisco/node-jose/security/advisories/GHSA-5h4j-qrvg-9xhw"],"products":["cisco:node-jose"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:37:38.595364862+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-25653","score":0.00552,"percentile":0.46119,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-5h4j-qrvg-9xhw","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-5h4j-qrvg-9xhw","summary":"Improper calculations in ECC implementation can trigger a Denial-of-Service (DoS)","modified":"2026-09-10T03:49:56.695548465Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"node-jose","purl":"pkg:npm/node-jose","ranges":["<2.2.0"],"fixed":["2.2.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
