{"cve":"CVE-2023-25578","nvd":{"published":"2023-02-15T15:15:11.883","modified":"2026-06-17T05:41:31.980","status":"Modified","description":"Starlite is an Asynchronous Server Gateway Interface (ASGI) framework. Prior to version 1.5.2, the request body parsing in `starlite` allows a potentially unauthenticated attacker to consume a large amount of CPU time and RAM. The multipart body parser processes an unlimited number of file parts and an unlimited number of field parts. This is a remote, potentially unauthenticated Denial of Service vulnerability. This vulnerability affects applications with a request handler that accepts a `Body(media_type=RequestEncodingType.MULTI_PART)`. The large amount of CPU time required for processing requests can block all available worker processes and significantly delay or slow down the processing of legitimate user requests. The large amount of RAM accumulated while processing requests can lead to Out-Of-Memory kills. Complete DoS is achievable by sending many concurrent multipart requests in a loop. Version 1.51.2 contains a patch for this issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-770"],"references":["https://github.com/starlite-api/starlite/commit/9674fe803628f986c03fe60769048cbc55b5bf83","https://github.com/starlite-api/starlite/releases/tag/v1.51.2","https://github.com/starlite-api/starlite/security/advisories/GHSA-p24m-863f-fm6q","https://github.com/starlite-api/starlite/commit/9674fe803628f986c03fe60769048cbc55b5bf83","https://github.com/starlite-api/starlite/releases/tag/v1.51.2"],"products":["starliteproject:starlite"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:37:38.595364862+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-25578","score":0.01013,"percentile":0.63235,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-p24m-863f-fm6q","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-p24m-863f-fm6q","summary":"Denial of service vulnerability when parsing multipart request body","modified":"2026-02-04T03:04:27.416791Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"starlite","purl":"pkg:pypi/starlite","ranges":["<1.51.2"],"fixed":["1.51.2"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2023-49","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2023-49","summary":"","modified":"2023-11-08T04:11:52.602297Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"starlite","purl":"pkg:pypi/starlite","ranges":["<1.51.2"],"fixed":["1.51.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
