{"cve":"CVE-2023-22461","nvd":{"published":"2023-01-04T15:15:09.510","modified":"2026-06-17T05:35:30.200","status":"Modified","description":"The `sanitize-svg` package, a small SVG sanitizer to prevent cross-site scripting attacks, uses a deny-list-pattern to sanitize SVGs to prevent XSS. In doing so, literal `<script>`-tags and on-event handlers were detected in versions prior to 0.4.0. As a result, downstream software that relies on `sanitize-svg` and expects resulting SVGs to be safe, may be vulnerable to cross-site scripting. This vulnerability was addressed in v0.4.0. There are no known workarounds","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":6.1},"cwes":["CWE-79","CWE-80"],"references":["https://github.com/mattkrick/sanitize-svg/commit/b107e453ede7b58adcccae74a3e474c012eec85d","https://github.com/mattkrick/sanitize-svg/security/advisories/GHSA-h857-2g56-468g","https://github.com/mattkrick/sanitize-svg/commit/b107e453ede7b58adcccae74a3e474c012eec85d","https://github.com/mattkrick/sanitize-svg/security/advisories/GHSA-h857-2g56-468g"],"products":["sanitize-svg_project:sanitize-svg"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:37:31.370122805+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-22461","score":0.00588,"percentile":0.48106,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-h857-2g56-468g","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-h857-2g56-468g","summary":"@mattkrick/sanitize-svg vulnerable to Cross-Site Scripting (XSS)","modified":"2023-11-08T04:11:35.614154Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@mattkrick/sanitize-svg","purl":"pkg:npm/%40mattkrick/sanitize-svg","ranges":["<0.4.0"],"fixed":["0.4.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
