This is due to a lack of authorization checks on the multiple_roles_update function. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with minimal permissions such as a subscriber, to modify their user role by supplying the 'wpda_role[]' parameter during a profile update. This requires the 'Enable role management' setting to be enabled for the site.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-266"],"references":["https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wp-data-access/tags/5.3.7/WPDataRoles/WPDA_Roles.php#L50","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wp-data-access/tags/5.3.8/WPDataRoles/WPDA_Roles.php#L23","https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wp-data-access/tags/5.3.8/WPDataRoles/WPDA_Roles.php#L50","https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2023/04/privilege-escalation-vulnerability-patched-promptly-in-wp-data-access-wordpress-plugin/","https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/8f562e33-2aef-46f0-8a65-691155ede9e7?source=cve"],"products":["wpdataaccess:wp_data_access"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:38:05.473481323+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-1874","score":0.02726,"percentile":0.86064,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
