{"cve":"CVE-2023-1583","nvd":{"published":"2023-03-24T22:15:07.137","modified":"2026-06-17T05:28:18.580","status":"Modified","description":"A NULL pointer dereference was found in io_file_bitmap_get in io_uring/filetable.c in the io_uring sub-component in the Linux Kernel. When fixed files are unregistered, some context information (file_alloc_{start,end} and alloc_hint) is not cleared. A subsequent request that has auto index selection enabled via IORING_FILE_INDEX_ALLOC can cause a NULL pointer dereference. An unprivileged user can use the flaw to cause a system crash.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.5},"cwes":["CWE-476"],"references":["https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=02a4d923e4400a36d340ea12d8058f69ebf3a383","https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/axboe/linux-block.git/commit/?h=io_uring-6.3&id=761efd55a0227aca3a69deacdaa112fffd44fe37","https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=02a4d923e4400a36d340ea12d8058f69ebf3a383","https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/axboe/linux-block.git/commit/?h=io_uring-6.3&id=761efd55a0227aca3a69deacdaa112fffd44fe37"],"products":["linux:linux_kernel"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:37:48.383111019+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-1583","score":0.00211,"percentile":0.11395,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
