{"cve":"CVE-2023-1076","nvd":{"published":"2023-03-27T21:15:10.423","modified":"2026-06-17T05:27:03.083","status":"Modified","description":"A flaw was found in the Linux Kernel. The tun/tap sockets have their socket UID hardcoded to 0 due to a type confusion in their initialization function. While it will be often correct, as tuntap devices require CAP_NET_ADMIN, it may not always be the case, e.g., a non-root user only having that capability. This would make tun/tap sockets being incorrectly treated in filtering/routing decisions, possibly bypassing network filters.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":5.5},"cwes":["CWE-843","CWE-791"],"references":["https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git/commit/?id=66b2c338adce580dfce2199591e65e2bab889cff","https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git/commit/?id=a096ccca6e503a5c575717ff8a36ace27510ab0a","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2023/05/msg00005.html","https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git/commit/?id=66b2c338adce580dfce2199591e65e2bab889cff","https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git/commit/?id=a096ccca6e503a5c575717ff8a36ace27510ab0a"],"products":["linux:linux_kernel"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:37:48.383111019+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-1076","score":0.00254,"percentile":0.16962,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
