{"cve":"CVE-2022-4696","nvd":{"published":"2023-01-11T13:15:09.307","modified":"2026-09-01T18:05:07.353","status":"Analyzed","description":"There exists a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel through io_uring and the IORING_OP_SPLICE operation. If IORING_OP_SPLICE is missing the IO_WQ_WORK_FILES flag, which signals that the operation won't use current->nsproxy, so its reference counter is not increased. This assumption is not always true as calling io_splice on specific files will call the get_uts function which will use current->nsproxy leading to invalidly decreasing its reference counter later causing the use-after-free vulnerability. We recommend upgrading to version 5.10.160 or above","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-416","CWE-763"],"references":["https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?h=linux-5.10.y&id=75454b4bbfc7e6a4dd8338556f36ea9107ddf61a","https://kernel.dance/#75454b4bbfc7e6a4dd8338556f36ea9107ddf61a","https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?h=linux-5.10.y&id=75454b4bbfc7e6a4dd8338556f36ea9107ddf61a","https://kernel.dance/#75454b4bbfc7e6a4dd8338556f36ea9107ddf61a","https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20230223-0003/"],"products":["linux:linux_kernel","netapp:h300s_firmware","netapp:h410c_firmware","netapp:h410s_firmware","netapp:h500s_firmware","netapp:h700s_firmware"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:37:34.931465858+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-4696","score":0.0044,"percentile":0.38289,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
