Using its HSTS support, curl can be instructed to use HTTPS directly (instead of using an insecure cleartext HTTP step) even when HTTP is provided in the URL. This mechanism could be bypassed if the host name in the given URL uses IDN characters that get replaced with ASCII counterparts as part of the IDN conversion, e.g., using the character UTF-8 U+3002 (IDEOGRAPHIC FULL STOP) instead of the common ASCII full stop of U+002E (.). The earliest affected version is 7.77.0 2021-05-26.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-319"],"references":["http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2023/Jan/19","http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2023/Jan/20","http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2022/12/21/1","https://curl.se/docs/CVE-2022-42916.html","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/37YEVVC6NAF6H7UHH6YAUY5QEVY6LIH2/"],"products":["apple:macos","fedoraproject:fedora","haxx:curl","splunk:universal_forwarder"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:37:08.729216836+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-42916","score":0.02012,"percentile":0.80739,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
