{"cve":"CVE-2022-42915","nvd":{"published":"2022-10-29T20:15:09.700","modified":"2026-10-14T19:16:52.730","status":"Modified","description":"curl before 7.86.0 has a double free. If curl is told to use an HTTP proxy for a transfer with a non-HTTP(S) URL, it sets up the connection to the remote server by issuing a CONNECT request to the proxy, and then tunnels the rest of the protocol through. An HTTP proxy might refuse this request (HTTP proxies often only allow outgoing connections to specific port numbers, like 443 for HTTPS) and instead return a non-200 status code to the client. Due to flaws in the error/cleanup handling, this could trigger a double free in curl if one of the following schemes were used in the URL for the transfer: dict, gopher, gophers, ldap, ldaps, rtmp, rtmps, or telnet. The earliest affected version is 7.77.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.1},"cwes":["CWE-415"],"references":["http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2023/Jan/19","http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2023/Jan/20","https://curl.se/docs/CVE-2022-42915.html","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/37YEVVC6NAF6H7UHH6YAUY5QEVY6LIH2/","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/HVU3IMZCKR4VE6KJ4GCWRL2ILLC6OV76/"],"products":["apple:macos","fedoraproject:fedora","haxx:curl","netapp:h300s_firmware","netapp:h410s_firmware","netapp:h500s_firmware","netapp:h700s_firmware","netapp:ontap_9","splunk:universal_forwarder"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:37:08.729216836+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-42915","score":0.03651,"percentile":0.89524,"date":"2026-10-26"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
