Note that this occurs\nafter certificate chain signature verification and requires either a\nCA to have signed the malicious certificate or for the application to\ncontinue certificate verification despite failure to construct a path\nto a trusted issuer.\n\nThe read buffer overrun might result in a crash which could lead to\na denial of service attack. In theory it could also result in the disclosure\nof private memory contents (such as private keys, or sensitive plaintext)\nalthough we are not aware of any working exploit leading to memory\ncontents disclosure as of the time of release of this advisory.\n\nIn a TLS client, this can be triggered by connecting to a malicious\nserver. In a TLS server, this can be triggered if the server requests\nclient authentication and a malicious client connects.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":4.9},"cwes":["CWE-125"],"references":["https://git.openssl.org/gitweb/?p=openssl.git;a=commitdiff;h=c927a3492698c254637da836762f9b1f86cffabc","https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/202402-08","https://www.openssl.org/news/secadv/20230207.txt","https://git.openssl.org/gitweb/?p=openssl.git;a=commitdiff;h=c927a3492698c254637da836762f9b1f86cffabc","https://psirt.global.sonicwall.com/vuln-detail/SNWLID-2023-0003"],"products":["openssl:openssl"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:37:41.955480748+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-4203","score":0.01386,"percentile":0.72247,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-w67w-mw4j-8qrv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-w67w-mw4j-8qrv","summary":"openssl-src contains Read Buffer Overflow in X.509 Name Constraint","modified":"2026-09-10T03:49:52.237231550Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"openssl-src","purl":"pkg:cargo/openssl-src","ranges":[">=300.0.0 <300.0.12"],"fixed":["300.0.12"]}]},{"id":"RUSTSEC-2023-0008","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/RUSTSEC-2023-0008","summary":"X.509 Name Constraints Read Buffer Overflow","modified":"2023-11-08T04:10:37.466308Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"openssl-src","purl":"pkg:cargo/openssl-src","ranges":[">=300.0.0 <300.0.12"],"fixed":["300.0.12"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
