By crafting a BGP OPEN message with an option of type 0xff (Extended Length from RFC 9072), attackers may cause a denial of service (assertion failure and daemon restart, or out-of-bounds read). This is possible because of inconsistent boundary checks that do not account for reading 3 bytes (instead of 2) in this 0xff case.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-125"],"references":["https://github.com/FRRouting/frr/releases","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2023/09/msg00020.html","https://www.debian.org/security/2023/dsa-5495","https://github.com/FRRouting/frr/releases","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2023/09/msg00020.html"],"products":["debian:debian_linux","frrouting:frrouting"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:38:05.473481323+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-40302","score":0.01999,"percentile":0.80747,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
