{"cve":"CVE-2022-39218","nvd":{"published":"2022-09-20T20:15:10.447","modified":"2026-06-17T04:57:56.313","status":"Modified","description":"The JS Compute Runtime for Fastly's Compute@Edge platform provides the environment JavaScript is executed in when using the Compute@Edge JavaScript SDK. In versions prior to 0.5.3, the `Math.random` and `crypto.getRandomValues` methods fail to use sufficiently random values. The initial value to seed the PRNG (pseudorandom number generator) is baked-in to the final WebAssembly module, making the sequence of random values for that specific WebAssembly module predictable. An attacker can use the fixed seed to predict random numbers generated by these functions and bypass cryptographic security controls, for example to disclose sensitive data encrypted by functions that use these generators. The problem has been patched in version 0.5.3. No known workarounds exist.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-335"],"references":["https://github.com/fastly/js-compute-runtime/security/advisories/GHSA-cmr8-5w4c-44v8","https://github.com/fastly/js-compute-runtime/security/advisories/GHSA-cmr8-5w4c-44v8"],"products":["fastly:js-compute"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:35:14.992143698+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-39218","score":0.00922,"percentile":0.60361,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-cmr8-5w4c-44v8","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-cmr8-5w4c-44v8","summary":"Fastly Compute@Edge JS Runtime has fixed random number seed during compilation","modified":"2023-11-08T04:10:15.247693Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@fastly/js-compute","purl":"pkg:npm/%40fastly/js-compute","ranges":[">=0.4.0 <0.5.3"],"fixed":["0.5.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
