{"cve":"CVE-2022-36071","nvd":{"published":"2022-09-02T18:15:12.150","modified":"2026-06-17T04:52:51.387","status":"Modified","description":"SFTPGo is configurable SFTP server with optional HTTP/S, FTP/S and WebDAV support. SFTPGo WebAdmin and WebClient support login using TOTP (Time-based One Time Passwords) as a secondary authentication factor. Because TOTPs are often configured on mobile devices that can be lost, stolen or damaged, SFTPGo also supports recovery codes. These are a set of one time use codes that can be used instead of the TOTP. In SFTPGo versions from version 2.2.0 to 2.3.3 recovery codes can be generated before enabling two-factor authentication. An attacker who knows the user's password could potentially generate some recovery codes and then bypass two-factor authentication after it is enabled on the account at a later time. This issue has been fixed in version 2.3.4. Recovery codes can now only be generated after enabling two-factor authentication and are deleted after disabling it.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N","score":8.1},"cwes":["CWE-916","CWE-287"],"references":["https://github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/issues/965","https://github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/security/advisories/GHSA-54qx-8p8w-xhg8","https://github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/issues/965","https://github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/security/advisories/GHSA-54qx-8p8w-xhg8"],"products":["sftpgo_project:sftpgo"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:35:14.992143698+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-36071","score":0.00547,"percentile":0.45866,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-54qx-8p8w-xhg8","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-54qx-8p8w-xhg8","summary":"SFTPGo vulnerable to recovery codes abuse","modified":"2024-08-21T16:28:54.483117Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/v2","ranges":[">=2.2.0 <2.3.4"],"fixed":["2.3.4"]}]},{"id":"GO-2022-0964","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2022-0964","summary":"SFTPGo vulnerable to recovery codes abuse in github.com/drakkan/sftpgo","modified":"2026-03-03T04:52:33.164973Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/drakkan/sftpgo","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/drakkan/sftpgo","ranges":["all versions"],"fixed":[]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/v2","ranges":[">=2.2.0 <2.3.4"],"fixed":["2.3.4"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
