Versions of v8n prior to 1.5.1 were found to have an inefficient regular expression complexity in the `lowercase()` and `uppercase()` regex which could lead to a denial of service attack. In testing of the `lowercase()` function a payload of 'a' + 'a'.repeat(i) + 'A' with 32 leading characters took 29443 ms to execute. The same issue happens with uppercase(). Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-1333","CWE-400"],"references":["https://github.com/imbrn/v8n/commit/92393862156fad190c05ec3f6e2bc73308dcd2f9","https://github.com/imbrn/v8n/security/advisories/GHSA-xrx9-gj26-5wx9","https://huntr.dev/bounties/2d92f644-593b-43b4-bfd1-c8042ac60609/","https://github.com/imbrn/v8n/commit/92393862156fad190c05ec3f6e2bc73308dcd2f9","https://github.com/imbrn/v8n/security/advisories/GHSA-xrx9-gj26-5wx9"],"products":["v8n_project:v8n"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:34:18.502168378+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-35923","score":0.01763,"percentile":0.78043,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-xrx9-gj26-5wx9","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-xrx9-gj26-5wx9","summary":"v8n vulnerable to Inefficient Regular Expression Complexity","modified":"2023-11-08T04:09:52.856541Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"v8n","purl":"pkg:npm/v8n","ranges":["<1.5.1"],"fixed":["1.5.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
