{"cve":"CVE-2022-31115","nvd":{"published":"2022-06-30T22:15:08.773","modified":"2026-06-17T04:44:50.043","status":"Modified","description":"opensearch-ruby is a community-driven, open source fork of elasticsearch-ruby. In versions prior to 2.0.1 the ruby `YAML.load` function was used instead of `YAML.safe_load`. As a result opensearch-ruby 2.0.0 and prior can lead to unsafe deserialization using YAML.load if the response is of type YAML. An attacker must be in control of an opensearch server and convince the victim to connect to it in order to exploit this vulnerability. The problem has been patched in opensearch-ruby gem version 2.0.1. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-502"],"references":["https://github.com/opensearch-project/opensearch-ruby/pull/77","https://github.com/opensearch-project/opensearch-ruby/security/advisories/GHSA-977c-63xq-cgw3","https://staaldraad.github.io/post/2021-01-09-universal-rce-ruby-yaml-load-updated/","https://github.com/opensearch-project/opensearch-ruby/pull/77","https://github.com/opensearch-project/opensearch-ruby/security/advisories/GHSA-977c-63xq-cgw3"],"products":["amazon:opensearch"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:32:39.174919249+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-31115","score":0.01617,"percentile":0.7603,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-977c-63xq-cgw3","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-977c-63xq-cgw3","summary":"opensearch-ruby 2.x before 2.0.2 vulnerable to unsafe YAML deserialization","modified":"2024-02-22T05:30:03.876682Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"opensearch-ruby","purl":"pkg:gem/opensearch-ruby","ranges":[">=2.0.0 <2.0.2"],"fixed":["2.0.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
