{"cve":"CVE-2022-24790","nvd":{"published":"2022-03-30T22:15:08.500","modified":"2026-06-17T04:32:31.470","status":"Modified","description":"Puma is a simple, fast, multi-threaded, parallel HTTP 1.1 server for Ruby/Rack applications. When using Puma behind a proxy that does not properly validate that the incoming HTTP request matches the RFC7230 standard, Puma and the frontend proxy may disagree on where a request starts and ends. This would allow requests to be smuggled via the front-end proxy to Puma. The vulnerability has been fixed in 5.6.4 and 4.3.12. Users are advised to upgrade as soon as possible. Workaround: when deploying a proxy in front of Puma, turning on any and all functionality to make sure that the request matches the RFC7230 standard.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-444"],"references":["https://github.com/puma/puma/commit/5bb7d202e24dec00a898dca4aa11db391d7787a5","https://github.com/puma/puma/security/advisories/GHSA-h99w-9q5r-gjq9","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2022/08/msg00015.html","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/F6YWGIIKL7KKTS3ZOAYMYPC7D6WQ5OA5/","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/L7NESIBFCNSR3XH7LXDPKVMSUBNUB43G/"],"products":["debian:debian_linux","fedoraproject:fedora","puma:puma"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:29:06.454770966+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-24790","score":0.02191,"percentile":0.82447,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-h99w-9q5r-gjq9","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-h99w-9q5r-gjq9","summary":"Puma vulnerable to HTTP Request Smuggling","modified":"2024-02-16T07:55:51.665412Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"puma","purl":"pkg:gem/puma","ranges":[">=5.0.0 <5.6.4"],"fixed":["5.6.4"]},{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"puma","purl":"pkg:gem/puma","ranges":["<4.3.12"],"fixed":["4.3.12"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
