{"cve":"CVE-2022-23531","nvd":{"published":"2022-12-17T00:15:08.643","modified":"2026-06-17T04:30:18.400","status":"Modified","description":"GuardDog is a CLI tool to identify malicious PyPI packages. Versions prior to 0.1.5 are vulnerable to Relative Path Traversal when scanning a specially-crafted local PyPI package. Running GuardDog against a specially-crafted package can allow an attacker to write an arbitrary file on the machine where GuardDog is executed due to a path traversal vulnerability when extracting the .tar.gz file of the package being scanned, which exists by design in the tarfile.TarFile.extractall function. This issue is patched in version 0.1.5.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-22","CWE-23"],"references":["https://github.com/DataDog/guarddog/pull/89/commits/a56aff58264cb6b7855d71b00dc10c39a5dbd306","https://github.com/DataDog/guarddog/releases/tag/v0.1.5","https://github.com/DataDog/guarddog/security/advisories/GHSA-rp2v-v467-q9vq","https://github.com/DataDog/guarddog/pull/89/commits/a56aff58264cb6b7855d71b00dc10c39a5dbd306","https://github.com/DataDog/guarddog/releases/tag/v0.1.5"],"products":["datadoghq:guarddog"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:37:31.370122805+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-23531","score":0.00734,"percentile":0.54405,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-rp2v-v467-q9vq","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-rp2v-v467-q9vq","summary":"GuardDog vulnerable to arbitrary file write when scanning a specially-crafted PyPI package","modified":"2026-02-22T22:55:57.366884Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"guarddog","purl":"pkg:pypi/guarddog","ranges":["<0.1.5"],"fixed":["0.1.5"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2022-42994","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2022-42994","summary":"","modified":"2026-02-22T22:48:54.447356Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"guarddog","purl":"pkg:pypi/guarddog","ranges":["<0.1.5"],"fixed":["0.1.5"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
