{"cve":"CVE-2022-23505","nvd":{"published":"2022-12-13T08:15:09.067","modified":"2026-06-17T04:30:15.380","status":"Modified","description":"Passport-wsfed-saml2 is a ws-federation protocol and SAML2 tokens authentication provider for Passport. In versions prior to 4.6.3, a remote attacker may be able to bypass WSFed authentication on a website using passport-wsfed-saml2. A successful attack requires that the attacker is in possession of an arbitrary IDP signed assertion. Depending on the IDP used, fully unauthenticated attacks (e.g without access to a valid user) might also be feasible if generation of a signed message can be triggered. This issue is patched in version 4.6.3. Use of SAML2 authentication instead of WSFed is a workaround.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-287"],"references":["https://github.com/auth0/passport-wsfed-saml2/security/advisories/GHSA-ppjq-qxhx-m25f","https://github.com/auth0/passport-wsfed-saml2/security/advisories/GHSA-ppjq-qxhx-m25f"],"products":["auth0:passport-wsfed-saml2"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:37:28.463369388+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-23505","score":0.008,"percentile":0.56596,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-ppjq-qxhx-m25f","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-ppjq-qxhx-m25f","summary":"Authentication Bypass for passport-wsfed-saml2","modified":"2023-11-08T04:08:19.819021Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"passport-wsfed-saml2","purl":"pkg:npm/passport-wsfed-saml2","ranges":["<4.6.3"],"fixed":["4.6.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
