{"cve":"CVE-2022-1473","nvd":{"published":"2022-05-03T16:15:18.957","modified":"2026-10-14T13:17:19.207","status":"Modified","description":"The OPENSSL_LH_flush() function, which empties a hash table, contains a bug that breaks reuse of the memory occuppied by the removed hash table entries. This function is used when decoding certificates or keys. If a long lived process periodically decodes certificates or keys its memory usage will expand without bounds and the process might be terminated by the operating system causing a denial of service. Also traversing the empty hash table entries will take increasingly more time. Typically such long lived processes might be TLS clients or TLS servers configured to accept client certificate authentication. The function was added in the OpenSSL 3.0 version thus older releases are not affected by the issue. Fixed in OpenSSL 3.0.3 (Affected 3.0.0,3.0.1,3.0.2).","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-459"],"references":["https://cert-portal.siemens.com/productcert/pdf/ssa-953464.pdf","https://git.openssl.org/gitweb/?p=openssl.git%3Ba=commitdiff%3Bh=64c85430f95200b6b51fe9475bd5203f7c19daf1","https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/202210-02","https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20220602-0009/","https://www.openssl.org/news/secadv/20220503.txt"],"products":["netapp:a250_firmware","netapp:a700s_firmware","netapp:active_iq_unified_manager","netapp:aff_500f_firmware","netapp:aff_8300_firmware","netapp:aff_8700_firmware","netapp:aff_a400_firmware","netapp:clustered_data_ontap","netapp:clustered_data_ontap_antivirus_connector","netapp:fabric-attached_storage_a400_firmware","netapp:fas_500f_firmware","netapp:fas_8300_firmware","netapp:fas_8700_firmware","netapp:h300e_firmware","netapp:h300s_firmware","netapp:h410s_firmware","netapp:h500e_firmware","netapp:h500s_firmware","netapp:h700e_firmware","netapp:h700s_firmware","netapp:santricity_smi-s_provider","netapp:smi-s_provider","netapp:snapmanager","netapp:solidfire\\,_enterprise_sds_\\&_hci_storage_node","netapp:solidfire_\\&_hci_management_node","openssl:openssl"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:30:03.577988018+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2022-1473","score":0.04678,"percentile":0.9171,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-g323-fr93-4j3c","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-g323-fr93-4j3c","summary":"Resource leakage when decoding certificates and keys","modified":"2026-09-10T03:49:33.365456090Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"openssl-src","purl":"pkg:cargo/openssl-src","ranges":[">=300.0.0 <300.0.6"],"fixed":["300.0.6"]}]},{"id":"RUSTSEC-2022-0025","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/RUSTSEC-2022-0025","summary":"Resource leakage when decoding certificates and keys","modified":"2023-11-08T04:07:49.486512Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"openssl-src","purl":"pkg:cargo/openssl-src","ranges":[">=300.0.0 <300.0.6"],"fixed":["300.0.6"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
