This encoding can be used by an RRDP repository to cause an out-of-memory crash in these versions of Routinator. RRDP uses XML which allows arbitrary amounts of white space in the encoded data. The gzip scheme compresses such white space extremely well, leading to very small compressed files that become huge when being decompressed for further processing, big enough that Routinator runs out of memory when parsing input data waiting for the next XML element.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-787","CWE-1325"],"references":["https://www.debian.org/security/2022/dsa-5041","https://www.nlnetlabs.nl/downloads/routinator/CVE-2021-43172_CVE-2021-43173_CVE-2021-43174.txt","https://www.debian.org/security/2022/dsa-5041","https://www.nlnetlabs.nl/downloads/routinator/CVE-2021-43172_CVE-2021-43173_CVE-2021-43174.txt"],"products":["debian:debian_linux","nlnetlabs:routinator"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:24:39.218183596+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2021-43174","score":0.01127,"percentile":0.66353,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-6mv9-qcx2-3hh3","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-6mv9-qcx2-3hh3","summary":"Memory exhaustion in routinator","modified":"2023-11-08T04:07:09.172398Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"routinator","purl":"pkg:cargo/routinator","ranges":[">=0.9.0 <0.10.2"],"fixed":["0.10.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
