This is exploitable in certain use cases where an OAuth identity provider uses an HTTP 200 status code for authentication-failure error reports, and an application grants authorization upon simply receiving the access token (i.e., does not try to use the token). NOTE: the passport-oauth2 vendor does not consider this a passport-oauth2 vulnerability","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","score":5.3},"cwes":[],"references":["https://github.com/jaredhanson/passport-oauth2/commit/8e3bcdff145a2219033bd782fc517229fe3e05ea","https://github.com/jaredhanson/passport-oauth2/compare/v1.6.0...v1.6.1","https://github.com/jaredhanson/passport-oauth2/pull/144","https://github.com/jaredhanson/passport-oauth2/commit/8e3bcdff145a2219033bd782fc517229fe3e05ea","https://github.com/jaredhanson/passport-oauth2/compare/v1.6.0...v1.6.1"],"products":["passportjs:passport-oauth2"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:23:41.316049955+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2021-41580","score":0.01303,"percentile":0.70503,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-f794-r6xc-hf3v","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-f794-r6xc-hf3v","summary":"Improper Access Control in passport-oauth2","modified":"2023-11-08T04:06:59.967430Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"passport-oauth2","purl":"pkg:npm/passport-oauth2","ranges":["<1.6.1"],"fixed":["1.6.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
