{"cve":"CVE-2021-41150","nvd":{"published":"2021-10-19T20:15:08.263","modified":"2026-06-17T04:07:58.500","status":"Modified","description":"Tough provides a set of Rust libraries and tools for using and generating the update framework (TUF) repositories. The tough library, prior to 0.12.0, does not properly sanitize delegated role names when caching a repository, or when loading a repository from the filesystem. When the repository is cached or loaded, files ending with the .json extension could be overwritten with role metadata anywhere on the system. A fix is available in version 0.12.0. No workarounds to this issue are known.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/awslabs/tough/commit/1809b9bd1106d78a51fbea3071aa97a3530bac9a","https://github.com/awslabs/tough/security/advisories/GHSA-r56q-vv3c-6g9c","https://github.com/theupdateframework/python-tuf/security/advisories/GHSA-wjw6-2cqr-j4qr","https://github.com/awslabs/tough/commit/1809b9bd1106d78a51fbea3071aa97a3530bac9a","https://github.com/awslabs/tough/security/advisories/GHSA-r56q-vv3c-6g9c"],"products":["amazon:tough"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:24:39.218183596+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2021-41150","score":0.01281,"percentile":0.70062,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-r56q-vv3c-6g9c","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-r56q-vv3c-6g9c","summary":"Improper sanitization of delegated role names","modified":"2026-02-04T04:36:16.723575Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"tough","purl":"pkg:cargo/tough","ranges":["<0.12.0"],"fixed":["0.12.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
