This can be used for a Denial Of Service attack. The IMAP user needs to be authenticated to exploit this vulnerability. This affected Apache James prior to version 3.6.1. This vulnerability had been patched in Apache James 3.6.1 and higher. We recommend the upgrade.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-835"],"references":["http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2022/01/04/3","https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2022/01/04/3","http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2022/01/04/3","https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2022/01/04/3"],"products":["apache:james"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:26:33.761856376+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2021-40111","score":0.02192,"percentile":0.82454,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-fqgw-6qj5-8hmp","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-fqgw-6qj5-8hmp","summary":"Infinite Loop in Apache James","modified":"2026-09-10T03:49:27.720791624Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.apache.james:james-server","purl":"pkg:maven/org.apache.james/james-server","ranges":["<3.6.1"],"fixed":["3.6.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
