{"cve":"CVE-2021-39201","nvd":{"published":"2021-09-09T22:15:09.433","modified":"2026-06-17T04:03:18.087","status":"Modified","description":"WordPress is a free and open-source content management system written in PHP and paired with a MySQL or MariaDB database. ### Impact The issue allows an authenticated but low-privileged user (like contributor/author) to execute XSS in the editor. This bypasses the restrictions imposed on users who do not have the permission to post `unfiltered_html`. ### Patches This has been patched in WordPress 5.8, and will be pushed to older versions via minor releases (automatic updates). It's strongly recommended that you keep auto-updates enabled to receive the fix. ### References https://wordpress.org/news/category/releases/ https://hackerone.com/reports/1142140 ### For more information If you have any questions or comments about this advisory: * Open an issue in [HackerOne](https://hackerone.com/wordpress)","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":5.4},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-develop/security/advisories/GHSA-wh69-25hr-h94v","https://hackerone.com/reports/1142140","https://www.debian.org/security/2021/dsa-4985","https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-develop/security/advisories/GHSA-wh69-25hr-h94v","https://hackerone.com/reports/1142140"],"products":["debian:debian_linux","wordpress:wordpress"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:23:41.316049955+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2021-39201","score":0.01494,"percentile":0.74168,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
