The schema parser uses eval as part of its processing, and tries to protect from malicious expressions by limiting the builtins that are passed to the eval. When processing the schema, each line is run through Python's eval function to make the validator available. A well-constructed string within the schema rules can execute system commands; thus, by exploiting the vulnerability, an attacker can run arbitrary code on the image that invokes Yamale.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-434"],"references":["https://github.com/23andMe/Yamale/pull/165","https://github.com/23andMe/Yamale/releases/tag/3.0.8","https://github.com/23andMe/Yamale/pull/165","https://github.com/23andMe/Yamale/releases/tag/3.0.8"],"products":["23andme:yamale"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:21:13.713336758+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2021-38305","score":0.0249,"percentile":0.84643,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-435p-f82x-mxwm","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-435p-f82x-mxwm","summary":"Command injection in Yamale","modified":"2024-11-19T18:33:15.429434Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"yamale","purl":"pkg:pypi/yamale","ranges":["<3.0.8"],"fixed":["3.0.8"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2021-119","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2021-119","summary":"","modified":"2023-11-08T04:06:27.449217Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"yamale","purl":"pkg:pypi/yamale","ranges":["<3.0.8"],"fixed":["3.0.8"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
