Depending on usage, users of hbs may be vulnerable to a file disclosure vulnerability. There is currently no patch for this vulnerability. hbs mixes pure template data with engine configuration options through the Express render API. By overwriting internal configuration options a file disclosure vulnerability may be triggered in downstream applications. For an example PoC see the referenced GHSL-2021-020.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-94","CWE-538"],"references":["https://securitylab.github.com/advisories/GHSL-2021-020-pillarjs-hbs/","https://securitylab.github.com/advisories/GHSL-2021-020-pillarjs-hbs/"],"products":["hbs_project:hbs"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:21:57.125947417+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2021-32822","score":0.00982,"percentile":0.623,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-7f5c-rpf4-86p8","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-7f5c-rpf4-86p8","summary":"hbs: Insertion of Sensitive Information into Externally-Accessible File or Directory and Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor","modified":"2026-10-27T16:15:05.322069543Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"hbs","purl":"pkg:npm/hbs","ranges":["<=4.4.0"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
