The `siftool new` command and func siftool.New() produce predictable UUID identifiers due to insecure randomness in the version of the `github.com/satori/go.uuid` module used as a dependency. A patch is available in version >= v1.2.3 of the module. Users are encouraged to upgrade. As a workaround, users passing CreateInfo struct should ensure the `ID` field is generated using a version of `github.com/satori/go.uuid` that is not vulnerable to this issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-330"],"references":["https://github.com/sylabs/sif/security/advisories/GHSA-4gh8-x3vv-phhg","https://github.com/sylabs/sif/security/advisories/GHSA-4gh8-x3vv-phhg"],"products":["sylabs:singularity_image_format"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:18:09.669877188+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2021-29499","score":0.00958,"percentile":0.61493,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-4gh8-x3vv-phhg","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-4gh8-x3vv-phhg","summary":"Predictable SIF UUID Identifiers in github.com/sylabs/sif","modified":"2026-07-08T06:28:43.589924945Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/sylabs/sif","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/sylabs/sif","ranges":["<1.2.3"],"fixed":["1.2.3"]}]},{"id":"GO-2022-0912","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2022-0912","summary":"Predictable SIF UUID Identifiers in github.com/sylabs/sif","modified":"2026-03-03T04:51:03.214114Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/sylabs/sif","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/sylabs/sif","ranges":["<1.2.3"],"fixed":["1.2.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
