XML external entity injection (also known as XXE) is a web security vulnerability that allows an attacker to interfere with an application's processing of XML data. It often allows an attacker to view files on the application server filesystem, and to interact with any back-end or external systems that the application itself can access. This issue is fixed in Apache Nutch 1.18.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N","score":9.1},"cwes":["CWE-611"],"references":["https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NUTCH-2841","https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/r090321840b44cc91086c4e317bf2baffa270749dde6c1273b6567f7c%40%3Cdev.nutch.apache.org%3E","https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/r5e2f7737b42c73a3325f3c2c8cdee1ec27631b3a0e144104d84d70e6%40%3Cannounce.apache.org%3E","https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/r7ddfd680aa7ea001ca8da63bb23e3f8caa095a8b4f2261e46bade5c7%40%3Cdev.nutch.apache.org%3E","https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20210513-0003/"],"products":["apache:nutch","netapp:snap_creator_framework"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:14:10.479542811+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2021-23901","score":0.04412,"percentile":0.91339,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-fxhp-wrw9-3r97","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-fxhp-wrw9-3r97","summary":"XML external entity (XXE) injection in Apache Nutch","modified":"2024-02-17T05:21:10.001015Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.apache.nutch:nutch","purl":"pkg:maven/org.apache.nutch/nutch","ranges":["<1.18"],"fixed":["1.18"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
