An attacker can exploit this vulnerability if they are able to supply a file (e.g. when an online profile picture is processed) with a malicious XMP segment. If the XMP metadata of the uploaded image is parsed, then the XXE vulnerability is triggered.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.8},"cwes":["CWE-611"],"references":["https://github.com/haraldk/TwelveMonkeys/commit/da4efe98bf09e1cce91b7633cb251958a200fc80","https://snyk.io/vuln/SNYK-JAVA-COMTWELVEMONKEYSIMAGEIO-2316763","https://github.com/haraldk/TwelveMonkeys/commit/da4efe98bf09e1cce91b7633cb251958a200fc80","https://snyk.io/vuln/SNYK-JAVA-COMTWELVEMONKEYSIMAGEIO-2316763"],"products":["twelvemonkeys_project:twelvemonkeys"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:31:59.322382750+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2021-23792","score":0.01066,"percentile":0.64772,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-pjch-4g28-fxx7","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-pjch-4g28-fxx7","summary":"External Entity Reference in TwelveMonkeys ImageIO","modified":"2026-09-10T03:49:24.007757656Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"com.twelvemonkeys.imageio:imageio-metadata","purl":"pkg:maven/com.twelvemonkeys.imageio/imageio-metadata","ranges":["<3.7.1"],"fixed":["3.7.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
