When RBAC is enabled, Kiali assumes that some of the token validation is handled by the underlying cluster. When OpenID `implicit flow` is used with RBAC turned off, this token validation doesn't occur, and this allows a malicious user to bypass the authentication.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-287","CWE-290"],"references":["https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1937171","https://kiali.io/news/security-bulletins/kiali-security-002/","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1937171","https://kiali.io/news/security-bulletins/kiali-security-002/"],"products":["kiali:kiali"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:18:09.669877188+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2021-20278","score":0.00763,"percentile":0.55382,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-ggjr-2f7v-vhq4","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-ggjr-2f7v-vhq4","summary":"Kiali Authentication Bypass vulnerability","modified":"2024-08-21T15:41:55.789181Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/kiali/kiali","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/kiali/kiali","ranges":["<1.31.0"],"fixed":["1.31.0"]}]},{"id":"GO-2022-0700","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2022-0700","summary":"Kiali Authentication Bypass vulnerability in github.com/kiali/kiali","modified":"2026-03-03T04:50:49.720835Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/kiali/kiali","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/kiali/kiali","ranges":["<1.31.0"],"fixed":["1.31.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
