{"cve":"CVE-2020-5257","nvd":{"published":"2020-03-13T21:15:12.190","modified":"2026-06-17T03:21:08.753","status":"Modified","description":"In Administrate (rubygem) before version 0.13.0, when sorting by attributes on a dashboard, the direction parameter was not validated before being interpolated into the SQL query. This could present a SQL injection if the attacker were able to modify the `direction` parameter and bypass ActiveRecord SQL protections. Whilst this does have a high-impact, to exploit this you need access to the Administrate dashboards, which we would expect to be behind authentication. This is patched in wersion 0.13.0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N","score":8.1},"cwes":["CWE-89","CWE-943"],"references":["https://github.com/thoughtbot/administrate/commit/3ab838b83c5f565fba50e0c6f66fe4517f98eed3","https://github.com/thoughtbot/administrate/security/advisories/GHSA-2p5p-m353-833w","https://github.com/thoughtbot/administrate/commit/3ab838b83c5f565fba50e0c6f66fe4517f98eed3","https://github.com/thoughtbot/administrate/security/advisories/GHSA-2p5p-m353-833w"],"products":["thoughtbot:administrate"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:03:08.679916934+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2020-5257","score":0.009,"percentile":0.59662,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-2p5p-m353-833w","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-2p5p-m353-833w","summary":"Sort order SQL injection in Administrate","modified":"2026-07-08T06:28:12.832132300Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"administrate","purl":"pkg:gem/administrate","ranges":["<0.13.0"],"fixed":["0.13.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
