{"cve":"CVE-2020-5230","nvd":{"published":"2020-01-30T21:15:15.167","modified":"2026-06-17T03:21:04.393","status":"Modified","description":"Opencast before 8.1 and 7.6 allows almost arbitrary identifiers for media packages and elements to be used. This can be problematic for operation and security since such identifiers are sometimes used for file system operations which may lead to an attacker being able to escape working directories and write files to other locations. In addition, Opencast's Id.toString(…) vs Id.compact(…) behavior, the latter trying to mitigate some of the file system problems, can cause errors due to identifier mismatch since an identifier may unintentionally change. This issue is fixed in Opencast 7.6 and 8.1.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-74","CWE-99"],"references":["https://github.com/opencast/opencast/commit/bbb473f34ab95497d6c432c81285efb0c739f317","https://github.com/opencast/opencast/security/advisories/GHSA-w29m-fjp4-qhmq","https://github.com/opencast/opencast/commit/bbb473f34ab95497d6c432c81285efb0c739f317","https://github.com/opencast/opencast/security/advisories/GHSA-w29m-fjp4-qhmq"],"products":["apereo:opencast"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:01:01.339895972+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2020-5230","score":0.01168,"percentile":0.67383,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-w29m-fjp4-qhmq","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-w29m-fjp4-qhmq","summary":"Unsafe Identifiers in Opencast","modified":"2026-07-08T05:59:52.798495316Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.opencastproject:base","purl":"pkg:maven/org.opencastproject/base","ranges":["<7.6"],"fixed":["7.6"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.opencastproject:base","purl":"pkg:maven/org.opencastproject/base","ranges":[">=8.0 <8.1"],"fixed":["8.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
