{"cve":"CVE-2020-3120","nvd":{"published":"2020-02-05T18:15:11.063","modified":"2026-06-17T03:17:23.383","status":"Modified","description":"A vulnerability in the Cisco Discovery Protocol implementation for Cisco FXOS Software, Cisco IOS XR Software, and Cisco NX-OS Software could allow an unauthenticated, adjacent attacker to cause a reload of an affected device, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability is due to a missing check when the affected software processes Cisco Discovery Protocol messages. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a malicious Cisco Discovery Protocol packet to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to exhaust system memory, causing the device to reload. Cisco Discovery Protocol is a Layer 2 protocol. To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker must be in the same broadcast domain as the affected device (Layer 2 adjacent).","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-190"],"references":["http://packetstormsecurity.com/files/156203/Cisco-Discovery-Protocol-CDP-Remote-Device-Takeover.html","https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-20200205-fxnxos-iosxr-cdp-dos","http://packetstormsecurity.com/files/156203/Cisco-Discovery-Protocol-CDP-Remote-Device-Takeover.html","https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-20200205-fxnxos-iosxr-cdp-dos"],"products":["cisco:firepower_extensible_operating_system","cisco:fxos","cisco:ios_xr","cisco:nx-os","cisco:ucs_manager"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:02:53.949909883+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2020-3120","score":0.01639,"percentile":0.76357,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
