{"cve":"CVE-2020-29569","nvd":{"published":"2020-12-15T17:15:14.707","modified":"2026-06-17T03:11:27.003","status":"Modified","description":"An issue was discovered in the Linux kernel through 5.10.1, as used with Xen through 4.14.x. The Linux kernel PV block backend expects the kernel thread handler to reset ring->xenblkd to NULL when stopped. However, the handler may not have time to run if the frontend quickly toggles between the states connect and disconnect. As a consequence, the block backend may re-use a pointer after it was freed. A misbehaving guest can trigger a dom0 crash by continuously connecting / disconnecting a block frontend. Privilege escalation and information leaks cannot be ruled out. This only affects systems with a Linux blkback.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-416"],"references":["https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2021/02/msg00018.html","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2021/03/msg00010.html","https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/202107-30","https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20210205-0001/","https://www.debian.org/security/2021/dsa-4843"],"products":["debian:debian_linux","linux:linux_kernel","netapp:hci_compute_node_bios","netapp:solidfire_\\&_hci_management_node","netapp:solidfire_\\&_hci_storage_node","xen:xen"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:12:09.559580076+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2020-29569","score":0.00396,"percentile":0.33874,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
