{"cve":"CVE-2020-15707","nvd":{"published":"2020-07-29T18:15:14.640","modified":"2026-06-17T02:57:05.697","status":"Modified","description":"Integer overflows were discovered in the functions grub_cmd_initrd and grub_initrd_init in the efilinux component of GRUB2, as shipped in Debian, Red Hat, and Ubuntu (the functionality is not included in GRUB2 upstream), leading to a heap-based buffer overflow. These could be triggered by an extremely large number of arguments to the initrd command on 32-bit architectures, or a crafted filesystem with very large files on any architecture. An attacker could use this to execute arbitrary code and bypass UEFI Secure Boot restrictions. This issue affects GRUB2 version 2.04 and prior versions.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":6.4},"cwes":["CWE-190","CWE-362"],"references":["http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2020-08/msg00016.html","http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2020-08/msg00017.html","http://ubuntu.com/security/notices/USN-4432-1","http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2020/07/29/3","https://access.redhat.com/security/vulnerabilities/grub2bootloader"],"products":["canonical:ubuntu_linux","debian:debian_linux","gnu:grub2","microsoft:windows_10","microsoft:windows_8.1","microsoft:windows_rt_8.1","microsoft:windows_server_2012","microsoft:windows_server_2016","microsoft:windows_server_2019","netapp:active_iq_unified_manager","opensuse:leap","redhat:enterprise_linux","redhat:enterprise_linux_atomic_host","redhat:openshift_container_platform","suse:suse_linux_enterprise_server"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:06:22.076270124+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2020-15707","score":0.01588,"percentile":0.7563,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
