{"cve":"CVE-2020-15265","nvd":{"published":"2020-10-21T21:15:12.257","modified":"2026-06-17T02:56:23.503","status":"Modified","description":"In Tensorflow before version 2.4.0, an attacker can pass an invalid `axis` value to `tf.quantization.quantize_and_dequantize`. This results in accessing a dimension outside the rank of the input tensor in the C++ kernel implementation. However, dim_size only does a DCHECK to validate the argument and then uses it to access the corresponding element of an array. Since in normal builds, `DCHECK`-like macros are no-ops, this results in segfault and access out of bounds of the array. The issue is patched in eccb7ec454e6617738554a255d77f08e60ee0808 and TensorFlow 2.4.0 will be released containing the patch. TensorFlow nightly packages after this commit will also have the issue resolved.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-125"],"references":["https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/commit/eccb7ec454e6617738554a255d77f08e60ee0808","https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/issues/42105","https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/security/advisories/GHSA-rrfp-j2mp-hq9c","https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/commit/eccb7ec454e6617738554a255d77f08e60ee0808","https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/issues/42105"],"products":["google:tensorflow"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:09:53.489947993+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2020-15265","score":0.00908,"percentile":0.59942,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-rrfp-j2mp-hq9c","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-rrfp-j2mp-hq9c","summary":"Segfault in `tf.quantization.quantize_and_dequantize`","modified":"2026-07-08T06:29:20.663478289Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow","ranges":["<2.4.0"],"fixed":["2.4.0"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-cpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-cpu","ranges":["<2.4.0"],"fixed":["2.4.0"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-gpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-gpu","ranges":["<2.4.0"],"fixed":["2.4.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2020-138","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2020-138","summary":"","modified":"2023-12-06T01:00:17.606171Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow","ranges":["<2.4.0"],"fixed":["2.4.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2020-295","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2020-295","summary":"","modified":"2023-12-06T01:00:17.606171Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-cpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-cpu","ranges":["<2.4.0"],"fixed":["2.4.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2020-330","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2020-330","summary":"","modified":"2023-12-06T01:00:17.606171Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-gpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-gpu","ranges":["<2.4.0"],"fixed":["2.4.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
