{"cve":"CVE-2020-15228","nvd":{"published":"2020-10-01T18:15:12.480","modified":"2026-06-17T02:56:18.857","status":"Modified","description":"In the `@actions/core` npm module before version 1.2.6,`addPath` and `exportVariable` functions communicate with the Actions Runner over stdout by generating a string in a specific format. Workflows that log untrusted data to stdout may invoke these commands, resulting in the path or environment variables being modified without the intention of the workflow or action author. The runner will release an update that disables the `set-env` and `add-path` workflow commands in the near future. For now, users should upgrade to `@actions/core v1.2.6` or later, and replace any instance of the `set-env` or `add-path` commands in their workflows with the new Environment File Syntax. Workflows and actions using the old commands or older versions of the toolkit will start to warn, then error out during workflow execution.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:L/A:N","score":5.0},"cwes":["CWE-77","CWE-20"],"references":["http://packetstormsecurity.com/files/159794/GitHub-Widespread-Injection.html","https://github.com/actions/toolkit/security/advisories/GHSA-mfwh-5m23-j46w","http://packetstormsecurity.com/files/159794/GitHub-Widespread-Injection.html","https://github.com/actions/toolkit/security/advisories/GHSA-mfwh-5m23-j46w"],"products":["toolkit_project:toolkit"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:09:53.489947993+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2020-15228","score":0.01488,"percentile":0.74071,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-mfwh-5m23-j46w","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-mfwh-5m23-j46w","summary":"Environment Variable Injection in GitHub Actions","modified":"2026-05-04T08:46:03.568992698Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@actions/core","purl":"pkg:npm/%40actions/core","ranges":["<1.2.6"],"fixed":["1.2.6"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
