{"cve":"CVE-2020-15209","nvd":{"published":"2020-09-25T19:15:16.213","modified":"2026-06-17T02:56:16.323","status":"Modified","description":"In tensorflow-lite before versions 1.15.4, 2.0.3, 2.1.2, 2.2.1 and 2.3.1, a crafted TFLite model can force a node to have as input a tensor backed by a `nullptr` buffer. This can be achieved by changing a buffer index in the flatbuffer serialization to convert a read-only tensor to a read-write one. The runtime assumes that these buffers are written to before a possible read, hence they are initialized with `nullptr`. However, by changing the buffer index for a tensor and implicitly converting that tensor to be a read-write one, as there is nothing in the model that writes to it, we get a null pointer dereference. The issue is patched in commit 0b5662bc, and is released in TensorFlow versions 1.15.4, 2.0.3, 2.1.2, 2.2.1, or 2.3.1.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.9},"cwes":["CWE-476"],"references":["http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2020-10/msg00065.html","https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/commit/0b5662bc2be13a8c8f044d925d87fb6e56247cd8","https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/releases/tag/v2.3.1","https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/security/advisories/GHSA-qh32-6jjc-qprm","http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2020-10/msg00065.html"],"products":["google:tensorflow","opensuse:leap"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:09:53.489947993+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2020-15209","score":0.008,"percentile":0.56601,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-qh32-6jjc-qprm","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-qh32-6jjc-qprm","summary":"Null pointer dereference in tensorflow-lite","modified":"2026-07-08T06:28:14.710268808Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow","ranges":["<1.15.4"],"fixed":["1.15.4"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow","ranges":[">=2.0.0 <2.0.3"],"fixed":["2.0.3"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow","ranges":[">=2.1.0 <2.1.2"],"fixed":["2.1.2"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow","ranges":[">=2.2.0 <2.2.1"],"fixed":["2.2.1"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow","ranges":[">=2.3.0 <2.3.1"],"fixed":["2.3.1"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-cpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-cpu","ranges":["<1.15.4"],"fixed":["1.15.4"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-cpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-cpu","ranges":[">=2.0.0 <2.0.3"],"fixed":["2.0.3"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-cpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-cpu","ranges":[">=2.1.0 <2.1.2"],"fixed":["2.1.2"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-cpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-cpu","ranges":[">=2.2.0 <2.2.1"],"fixed":["2.2.1"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-cpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-cpu","ranges":[">=2.3.0 <2.3.1"],"fixed":["2.3.1"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-gpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-gpu","ranges":["<1.15.4"],"fixed":["1.15.4"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-gpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-gpu","ranges":[">=2.0.0 <2.0.3"],"fixed":["2.0.3"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-gpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-gpu","ranges":[">=2.1.0 <2.1.2"],"fixed":["2.1.2"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-gpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-gpu","ranges":[">=2.2.0 <2.2.1"],"fixed":["2.2.1"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-gpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-gpu","ranges":[">=2.3.0 <2.3.1"],"fixed":["2.3.1"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2020-132","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2020-132","summary":"","modified":"2023-12-06T01:00:17.183099Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow","ranges":["<1.15.4",">=2.0.0 <2.0.3",">=2.1.0 <2.1.2",">=2.2.0 <2.2.1",">=2.3.0 <2.3.1"],"fixed":["1.15.4","2.0.3","2.1.2","2.2.1","2.3.1"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2020-289","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2020-289","summary":"","modified":"2023-12-06T01:00:17.183099Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-cpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-cpu","ranges":["<1.15.4",">=2.0.0 <2.0.3",">=2.1.0 <2.1.2",">=2.2.0 <2.2.1",">=2.3.0 <2.3.1"],"fixed":["1.15.4","2.0.3","2.1.2","2.2.1","2.3.1"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2020-324","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2020-324","summary":"","modified":"2023-12-06T01:00:17.183099Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"tensorflow-gpu","purl":"pkg:pypi/tensorflow-gpu","ranges":["<1.15.4",">=2.0.0 <2.0.3",">=2.1.0 <2.1.2",">=2.2.0 <2.2.1",">=2.3.0 <2.3.1"],"fixed":["1.15.4","2.0.3","2.1.2","2.2.1","2.3.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
