It allows an attacker to duplicate a valid signature in order to circumvent TUF requiring a minimum threshold of unique signatures before the metadata is considered valid. A fix is available in version 0.7.1. CVE-2020-6174 is assigned to the same vulnerability in the TUF reference implementation.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":8.6},"cwes":["CWE-347"],"references":["https://crates.io/crates/tough","https://github.com/awslabs/tough/security/advisories/GHSA-5q2r-92f9-4m49","https://github.com/theupdateframework/tuf/commit/2977188139d065ff3356c3cb4aec60c582b57e0e","https://github.com/theupdateframework/tuf/pull/974","https://crates.io/crates/tough"],"products":["amazon:tough"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:06:22.076270124+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2020-15093","score":0.01357,"percentile":0.7167,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-5q2r-92f9-4m49","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-5q2r-92f9-4m49","summary":"Improper verification of signature threshold in tough","modified":"2026-07-08T06:29:16.875562800Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"tough","purl":"pkg:cargo/tough","ranges":["<0.7.1"],"fixed":["0.7.1"]}]},{"id":"RUSTSEC-2020-0024","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/RUSTSEC-2020-0024","summary":"Improper uniqueness verification of signature threshold","modified":"2026-10-12T18:00:05.125526245Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"tough","purl":"pkg:cargo/tough","ranges":[">=0.0.0-0 <0.7.1"],"fixed":["0.7.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
