{"cve":"CVE-2020-1054","nvd":{"published":"2020-05-21T23:15:12.070","modified":"2026-10-08T10:36:00.860","status":"Analyzed","description":"An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists in Windows when the Windows kernel-mode driver fails to properly handle objects in memory. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could run arbitrary code in kernel mode. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.\nTo exploit this vulnerability, an attacker would first have to log on to the system. An attacker could then run a specially crafted application that could exploit the vulnerability and take control of an affected system.\nThe update addresses this vulnerability by correcting how the Windows kernel-mode driver handles objects in memory.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.0},"cwes":["CWE-787"],"references":["https://msrc.microsoft.com/update-guide/vulnerability/CVE-2020-1054","http://packetstormsecurity.com/files/160515/Microsoft-Windows-DrawIconEx-Local-Privilege-Escalation.html","https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-US/security-guidance/advisory/CVE-2020-1054","https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog?field_cve=CVE-2020-1054"],"products":["microsoft:windows_10_1507","microsoft:windows_10_1607","microsoft:windows_10_1709","microsoft:windows_10_1803","microsoft:windows_10_1809","microsoft:windows_10_1903","microsoft:windows_10_1909","microsoft:windows_7","microsoft:windows_8.1","microsoft:windows_rt_8.1","microsoft:windows_server_1803","microsoft:windows_server_1903","microsoft:windows_server_1909","microsoft:windows_server_2008","microsoft:windows_server_2012","microsoft:windows_server_2016","microsoft:windows_server_2019"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:05:42.039641217+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2020-1054","score":0.53878,"percentile":0.98993,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":{"cve":"CVE-2020-1054","date_added":"2021-11-03","due_date":"2022-05-03","vendor":"Microsoft","product":"Win32k","known_ransomware":false},"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
