{"cve":"CVE-2019-9686","nvd":{"published":"2019-03-11T16:29:00.283","modified":"2026-06-17T02:44:10.697","status":"Modified","description":"pacman before 5.1.3 allows directory traversal when installing a remote package via a specified URL \"pacman -U <url>\" due to an unsanitized file name received from a Content-Disposition header. pacman renames the downloaded package file to match the name given in this header. However, pacman did not sanitize this name, which may contain slashes, before calling rename(). A malicious server (or a network MitM if downloading over HTTP) can send a Content-Disposition header to make pacman place the file anywhere in the filesystem, potentially leading to arbitrary root code execution. Notably, this bypasses pacman's package signature checking. This occurs in curl_download_internal in lib/libalpm/dload.c.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://git.archlinux.org/pacman.git/commit/?h=release/5.1.x&id=1bf767234363f7ad5933af3f7ce267c123017bde","https://git.archlinux.org/pacman.git/commit/?id=9702703633bec2c007730006de2aeec8587dfc84","https://git.archlinux.org/pacman.git/commit/?id=d197d8ab82cf10650487518fb968067897a12775","https://git.archlinux.org/pacman.git/commit/?h=release/5.1.x&id=1bf767234363f7ad5933af3f7ce267c123017bde","https://git.archlinux.org/pacman.git/commit/?id=9702703633bec2c007730006de2aeec8587dfc84"],"products":["pacman_project:pacman"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:55:22.313337056+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2019-9686","score":0.0338,"percentile":0.88782,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
