{"cve":"CVE-2019-9495","nvd":{"published":"2019-04-17T14:29:03.887","modified":"2026-06-17T02:43:49.080","status":"Modified","description":"The implementations of EAP-PWD in hostapd and wpa_supplicant are vulnerable to side-channel attacks as a result of cache access patterns. All versions of hostapd and wpa_supplicant with EAP-PWD support are vulnerable. The ability to install and execute applications is necessary for a successful attack. Memory access patterns are visible in a shared cache. Weak passwords may be cracked. Versions of hostapd/wpa_supplicant 2.7 and newer, are not vulnerable to the timing attack described in CVE-2019-9494. Both hostapd with EAP-pwd support and wpa_supplicant with EAP-pwd support prior to and including version 2.7 are affected.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","score":3.7},"cwes":["CWE-203","CWE-524"],"references":["http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2020-02/msg00021.html","http://packetstormsecurity.com/files/152914/FreeBSD-Security-Advisory-FreeBSD-SA-19-03.wpa.html","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2019/07/msg00030.html","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/56OBBOJJSKRTDGEXZOVFSTP4HDSDBLAE/","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/SVMJOFEYBGXZLFF5IOLW67SSOPKFEJP3/"],"products":["debian:debian_linux","fedoraproject:fedora","freebsd:freebsd","opensuse:backports_sle","opensuse:leap","synology:radius_server","synology:router_manager","w1.fi:hostapd","w1.fi:wpa_supplicant"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:56:19.218283075+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2019-9495","score":0.03477,"percentile":0.89099,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
