{"cve":"CVE-2019-6111","nvd":{"published":"2019-01-31T18:29:00.867","modified":"2026-10-14T07:16:56.120","status":"Modified","description":"An issue was discovered in OpenSSH 7.9. Due to the scp implementation being derived from 1983 rcp, the server chooses which files/directories are sent to the client. However, the scp client only performs cursory validation of the object name returned (only directory traversal attacks are prevented). A malicious scp server (or Man-in-The-Middle attacker) can overwrite arbitrary files in the scp client target directory. If recursive operation (-r) is performed, the server can manipulate subdirectories as well (for example, to overwrite the .ssh/authorized_keys file).","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":5.9},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2019-06/msg00058.html","http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2019/04/18/1","http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2022/08/02/1","http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/106741","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2019:3702"],"products":["apache:mina_sshd","canonical:ubuntu_linux","debian:debian_linux","fedoraproject:fedora","freebsd:freebsd","fujitsu:m10-1_firmware","fujitsu:m10-4_firmware","fujitsu:m10-4s_firmware","fujitsu:m12-1_firmware","fujitsu:m12-2_firmware","fujitsu:m12-2s_firmware","openbsd:openssh","redhat:enterprise_linux","redhat:enterprise_linux_eus","redhat:enterprise_linux_server_aus","redhat:enterprise_linux_server_tus","siemens:scalance_x204rna_eec_firmware","siemens:scalance_x204rna_firmware","winscp:winscp"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:54:46.948512734+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2019-6111","score":0.58204,"percentile":0.99087,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
