{"cve":"CVE-2019-3901","nvd":{"published":"2019-04-22T16:29:01.850","modified":"2026-06-17T02:35:50.140","status":"Modified","description":"A race condition in perf_event_open() allows local attackers to leak sensitive data from setuid programs. As no relevant locks (in particular the cred_guard_mutex) are held during the ptrace_may_access() call, it is possible for the specified target task to perform an execve() syscall with setuid execution before perf_event_alloc() actually attaches to it, allowing an attacker to bypass the ptrace_may_access() check and the perf_event_exit_task(current) call that is performed in install_exec_creds() during privileged execve() calls. This issue affects kernel versions before 4.8.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":4.7},"cwes":["CWE-667"],"references":["http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/89937","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2019-3901","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2019/05/msg00041.html","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2019/05/msg00042.html","https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20190517-0005/"],"products":["debian:debian_linux","linux:linux_kernel","netapp:active_iq_unified_manager_for_vmware_vsphere","netapp:cn1610_firmware","netapp:hci_management_node","netapp:snapprotect","netapp:solidfire","netapp:storage_replication_adapter_for_clustered_data_ontap_for_vmware_vsphere","netapp:vasa_provider_for_clustered_data_ontap","netapp:virtual_storage_console_for_vmware_vsphere"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:56:19.218283075+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2019-3901","score":0.00339,"percentile":0.27331,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
