{"cve":"CVE-2019-3822","nvd":{"published":"2019-02-06T20:29:00.353","modified":"2026-06-17T02:35:39.603","status":"Modified","description":"libcurl versions from 7.36.0 to before 7.64.0 are vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow. The function creating an outgoing NTLM type-3 header (`lib/vauth/ntlm.c:Curl_auth_create_ntlm_type3_message()`), generates the request HTTP header contents based on previously received data. The check that exists to prevent the local buffer from getting overflowed is implemented wrongly (using unsigned math) and as such it does not prevent the overflow from happening. This output data can grow larger than the local buffer if very large 'nt response' data is extracted from a previous NTLMv2 header provided by the malicious or broken HTTP server. Such a 'large value' needs to be around 1000 bytes or more. The actual payload data copied to the target buffer comes from the NTLMv2 type-2 response header.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.8},"cwes":["CWE-787","CWE-121"],"references":["http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/106950","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2019:3701","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2019-3822","https://cert-portal.siemens.com/productcert/pdf/ssa-436177.pdf","https://curl.haxx.se/docs/CVE-2019-3822.html"],"products":["canonical:ubuntu_linux","debian:debian_linux","haxx:libcurl","netapp:active_iq_unified_manager","netapp:clustered_data_ontap","netapp:oncommand_insight","netapp:oncommand_workflow_automation","netapp:snapcenter","oracle:communications_operations_monitor","oracle:enterprise_manager_ops_center","oracle:http_server","oracle:mysql_server","oracle:secure_global_desktop","oracle:services_tools_bundle","redhat:enterprise_linux","siemens:sinema_remote_connect_client"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:54:46.948512734+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2019-3822","score":0.12873,"percentile":0.96302,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
