This is the case for example if the software is launched as a service or as a scheduled task using a system account (TempPath will be C:\\Windows\\Temp). In order to be exploitable the software has to be (re)started after the attacker launch the exploit program, so for a service launched at startup, a service restart is needed (e.g. after a crash or an upgrade).","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-732","CWE-250"],"references":["https://github.com/pyinstaller/pyinstaller/security/advisories/GHSA-7fcj-pq9j-wh2r","https://github.com/pyinstaller/pyinstaller/security/advisories/GHSA-7fcj-pq9j-wh2r"],"products":["pyinstaller:pyinstaller"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:01:01.339895972+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2019-16784","score":0.00695,"percentile":0.53006,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-7fcj-pq9j-wh2r","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-7fcj-pq9j-wh2r","summary":"Local Privilege Escalation in PyInstaller","modified":"2026-09-10T03:49:25.186628514Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"pyinstaller","purl":"pkg:pypi/pyinstaller","ranges":["<3.6"],"fixed":["3.6"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2020-175","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2020-175","summary":"","modified":"2023-11-08T04:01:21.579285Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"pyinstaller","purl":"pkg:pypi/pyinstaller","ranges":["<3.6"],"fixed":["3.6"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
