{"cve":"CVE-2019-16780","nvd":{"published":"2019-12-26T17:15:13.503","modified":"2026-06-17T02:22:47.390","status":"Modified","description":"WordPress users with lower privileges (like contributors) can inject JavaScript code in the block editor using a specific payload, which is executed within the dashboard. This can lead to XSS if an admin opens the post in the editor. Execution of this attack does require an authenticated user. This has been patched in WordPress 5.3.1, along with all the previous WordPress versions from 3.7 to 5.3 via a minor release. Automatic updates are enabled by default for minor releases and we strongly recommend that you keep them enabled.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":5.4},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-develop/commit/505dd6a20b6fc3d06130018c1caeff764248c29e","https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-develop/security/advisories/GHSA-x3wp-h3qx-9w94","https://hackerone.com/reports/738644","https://seclists.org/bugtraq/2020/Jan/8","https://wordpress.org/news/2019/12/wordpress-5-3-1-security-and-maintenance-release/"],"products":["debian:debian_linux","wordpress:wordpress"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:59:27.069234358+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2019-16780","score":0.01697,"percentile":0.77174,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
